Tavyside Health Centre, a brand new £2.8m building that has been in the planning since 2006 opened its doors to patients for the first time amidst much excitement.

Built on the site of the old Stannary Surgery at Abbey Rise in Tavistock, Tavyside Health Centre is now the home for the new partnership formed with all 7 GP Partners from both the old Stannary and Wharfside surgeries. The new partnership has also been taken live onto the web, with Devon web designers dv8:media creating a new health centre website for the project.

This state-of-the-art building will offer all the usual services expected from a GP practice, but will also be the home for Tavistock’s Health Visitor and Midwifery teams as well as Tavistock’s Sure Start Children’s Centre. The building has two large waiting areas, a lift, soft play areas for children, large GP consultation rooms and many more treatment rooms for other health care services such as physiotherapy, podiatry , counselling, sports medicine, and a travel clinic. The building also has its own independent community pharmacy.

Dr Graham Johnson, who has been the project co-ordinator since its inception back in 2007 says: “I am delighted that we are finally at this momentous day which has been so long in the planning. The project has been extremely exciting to work on and we’ve been very lucky to have been able to work with an exceptional architect, Steve Whettem and such hard working and conscientious builders from J E Stacey Ltd. They and the whole surgery team have all worked tirelessly to ensure the building was finished on time and have certainly not compromised on quality in any way. This is a fabulous new facility which will serve the community of Tavistock for many years to come.

We are now in the final phase of the project, which includes the demolition of the old Stannary surgery building in order to create our much needed car park. We realise this has been a particular problem for patients and we thank them very much for their patience and understanding!”

Tavyside Health Centre is also home to its own Training and Conference Centre on the third floor, which will be open for private hire from early September.

News of a £2.8m state of the art health centre supporting Tavistock and the surrounding areas has been released today. DV8 Media have been working in partnership with Lizzie Watt of LW Marketing to produce materials that can help communicate the changes that will be taking place, including production of the projects preliminary website, showcasing the health centre development project.

Wharfside Surgery and Stannary Surgery have announced officially that they will be joining forces to create a brand new £2.8million Health Centre serving Tavistock and its surrounding areas.

The new Health Centre, to be known as Tavyside, will be built in the grounds of Stannary Surgery on Abbey Rise, Tavistock.    The £2.8million capital needed to fund this project has been raised independently by the Partners in conjunction with Lloyds TSB Commercial. The project has been in the planning and development stages for the past three years and building work has now been commenced by Holsworthy builders J E Stacey Ltd. Tavyside Health Centre  is due for completion by the end of the year.
